This preserved exotic fruit has been grown in hot sub-tropical Thailand, carefully processed and dried so that the flavours are optimised. Because crystalised pineapple is so sweet, it makes a perfect addition to fruit cakes. The flavour suits serving with a portion of yogurt.
Introduced to Europe in the 17th century, for many years, until mass cultivation occured in the 20th century. It was always seen as a symbol of wealth. Modern production means that pineapple is available all year round. But outside of the areas they grow in, quality can be variable.
Our crystalised pineapple adds such great flavours to foods. It brings us sunshine inside.
