Our organic Mornflake oat bran is ideal for those who choose a low fat and low carbohydrate diets.

Add a dessertspoon of vitamin E rich oatbran to cakes, breads, biscuits, cereals, and add it to soups for a thickener, to improve your intake of fibre, essential for a healthy heart.

The fibre found in half a cup of organic Mornflake oat bran is about 1/8th of your daily need of soluble fibre.

Combine with porridge oats, dried or fresh fruit, with a milk of your choice and ground cinnamon or nutmeg for an exotic flavour. Maybe you can get up half an hour earlier so you get the chance to enjoy it extra slow.

Mornflake have been growing and milling oats since 1675. Their porridge has always been the best. Especially so is their organic range which are tender and have a better flavour.

What’s the difference between jumbo and porridge oats? Jumbo oats are a pressed oat, flattened with the bran on. They are chewier when eaten raw, though become creamier and richier when cooked.

There are many ways to prepare porridge. The most nutritious of all, after the whole oat, are the pinhead/steel cut oats. These take a little longer to prepare, but in the authors humble opinion make the most satisfying of feeds. Oats are loaded with important vitamins, minerals and antioxidant plant compounds. Half a cup (78 grams) of dry oats contains (5):

  • Manganese: 191% of the RDI
  • Phosphorus: 41% of the RDI
  • Magnesium: 34% of the RDI
  • Copper: 24% of the RDI
  • Iron: 20% of the RDI
  • Zinc: 20% of the RDI
  • Folate: 11% of the RDI
  • Vitamin B1 (thiamin): 39% of the RDI
  • Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid): 10% of the RDI
  • Smaller amounts of calcium, potassium, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) and vitamin B3 (niacin)

This is coming with 51 grams of carbs, 13 grams of protein, 5 grams of fat and 8 grams of fiber, but only 303 calories.
